Micronesian Diplomatic Club Luncheon
Ambassador Fritz hosted Ambassadors and representatives from 14 diplomatic missions residing in Japan as part of the Micronesian Diplomatic Club, providing an opportunity for friendly exchange of information, perspectives, and experiences, with the aim of further strengthening mutual understanding and diplomatic relations. The gathering also served as a platform to discuss issues of common interest and relevance to the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) and its partners.
The discussion centered on areas of mutual interest, particularly climate change and disaster mitigation and adaptation, recognizing the shared challenges faced by Pacific Island countries and other vulnerable communities. Participants also exchanged views on connectivity within the FSM, including the importance of strengthening transportation, digital, and other forms of connectivity to support sustainable development, economic opportunities, and greater access to essential services across the country's four states.
In addition, the gathering included a briefing on current activities and developments in the Pacific region, providing participating missions with an opportunity to gain a broader understanding of regional priorities, emerging issues, and ongoing initiatives. The exchange highlighted the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation among diplomatic missions in Japan in addressing shared challenges and supporting peace, stability, resilience, and sustainable development in the Pacific.
The Micronesian Diplomatic Club was launched in 2019 under the leadership of HE Ambassador John Fritz as a platform to connect the Missions to which the FSM Embassy in Tokyo is accredited, as well as the Missions accredited to the FSM with residence in Tokyo. Since its establishment, the Club has provided a valuable informal setting for diplomatic engagement, information sharing, and the strengthening of relationships between the FSM and its diplomatic partners.
