Commissioning of the Federated States of Micronesia’s Honorary Consul-General in Osaka Prefecture, Serving the Kinki Region

Osaka, Japan – The Embassy of the Federated States of Micronesia in Tokyo successfully commissioned Dr. Motoyasu Shirai, President of Osaka Gakuin University, as the Federated States of Micronesia's Honorary Consul-General on Friday, September 30 ^th , 2022. Dr. Shirai's appointment will cover the Kinki region housing seven prefectures, including Osaka.

The ceremony was marked by the official presentation of the Commission certificate, signed by His Excellency, David W. Panuelo, President of the Federated States of Micronesia and presented by His Excellency Mr. John Fritz, Ambassador to Japan.

The commissioning ceremony was held at the President's office of Osaka Gakuin University before university officials and friends of Micronesia, including Dr. Izumi Kobayashi, Professor and President of Japan Society for Pacific Island Studies.

In congratulating Dr. Shirai on behalf of the Government of the Federated States of Micronesia, His Excellency Ambassador Fritz expressed profound gratitude for the willingness to assist the Federated States of Micronesia in building and strengthening the Federated States of Micronesia-Japan relationship in Kinki region, as his late father had done. His Excellency Ambassador Fritz also emphasized the Embassy of the Federated States of Micronesia's willingness to work closely to materialize many projects reflecting the Kizuna the two countries share. The Embassy of the Federated States of Micronesia in Tokyo is confident that This will provide a strong foundation leading to upcoming events such as the World Expo 2025, to be held in Osaka, Japan.

Following the commission ceremony, the group visited the office of the Honorary Consul-General located in Kansai Business College, affiliated with Osaka Gakuin University. This room is saturated in cultural and traditional items from the Federated States of Micronesia, collected over the years.

The Embassy of the Federated States of Micronesia in Tokyo looks forward to the good work and shared friendship that will be continued through Dr. Motoyasu Shirai, Honorary Consul-General of the Federated States of Micronesia.
