I take this opportunity to express my heartfelt appreciation to the Mayor and people of Shimukappu Village, the officials and representatives of Hokkaido Government for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to me during my visit, with Mr. Kiminori Iwama, Director of Oceania Division of Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The visit was one among other ongoing events in preparation for the upcoming 5th Japan-Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting. Through the Summit, I sincerely hope that the friendly and cooperative relations between our people will be further enhanced. As island nations we share many things in common, and we are connected by the Ocean, it does not separate us. Thank you once again, and I look forward to seeing you all again in May.
