駐日ミクロネシア連邦大使：ジョン・フリッツの日々前進！

今年、ミクロネシア連邦に３台の中古ピアノを寄贈してくださった、富山県の竹田楽器 代表の竹田時康様と協和海運株式会社の高松社長がご来館されました。このように民間を通してミクロネシア連邦にピアノが渡るという、音楽の交流プロジェクトは初めてのことです。真心に心から感謝申し上げます。

Summary

Owner and president of Takeda Musical Instrument Company in Toyama Prefecture, Mr. Takeda, and President of Kyowa Shipping Company, Mr. Takamatsu visited the Embassy. Through Mr. Takeda with the cooperation of Kyowa Shipping Company, three pianos were donated to schools in the FSM. This is an important crass-root project to promote friendship through music. Thank you very very much for your kind donations.

約一週間の滞在を終え、無事に全員帰国しました。短い期間ではありますが、中身の濃い充実したプログラムを経験し、彼らにとって一生忘れることのできない夏休みになったと思います。初めて高い所に上って東京タワーから夜景を眺めたり、公立中学校での交流、長野県ではホームステイで日常生活を体験、北八ヶ岳および富士山登山（途中まで）では初めて白い自分の息を見たなど・・・。

自分が住んでいる島を出るのも初めてというメンバーがほとんどでしたが、若い時にこうした体験をすることによって、将来の夢が大きく広がったに違いありません。貴重な機会を与えて下さいました、国立青少年教育振興機構の皆様に心より御礼申し上げます。

Summary

Although it was a short one-week of stay in Japan, I am sure that all of the students returned home with fond memories and experiences that they will always cherish. All the activities they were involved in including  viewing Tokyo City from Tokyo Tower, friendly exchange with schools’ students, home stay with families, climbing Mt. Fuji from Shizuoka Prefecture  side and Northern Mt. Yatsugatake in Nagano Prefecture are certainly open-eyes for all of them.

It was the first time for most of the students to travel overseas and I am sure that their  experiences will help motivate them in their future endeavors. Extend appreciation to the National  Institution  for Youth Education  for the excellent  program.

多くの駐日大使が在籍している、民間外交推進協会（ＦＥＣ）の湯下専務理事がご来館されました。私はこのたび、こちらの新メンバーに加わりました。

ＦＥＣは、世界平和と繁栄のために、国際化時代に対応して各国・各地域の政治、経済、文化等の調査研究及び各国との友好関係の増進のための経済、文化交流事業を行うことを通じ、民間外交の推進と支援に努めることを目的としています。（協会ホームページより。）

これからＦＥＣを通して、他のメンバーとの協力体制を取れたらと思っています。私の方からは本年の国交樹立２５周年についてお話し、意見交換をいたしました。

Summary

I want to thank Mr. Hiroyuki Yushita, Senior Managing Director of the International Friendship Exchange Council (FEC) for visiting the Embassy, and for the honorary membership  of FEC. Numbers of Ambassadors based in Tokyo have been given the honorary membership. Since its establishment, the FEC has endeavored to promote economic, cultural and social exchanges with many countries around the world and to build friendship and mutual understanding with them approaching from the perspective of grass-root diplomacy. I look forward to collaborate with the members of FEC. I also had the  opportunity to exchange views with Mr. Yushita on the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Federated States of Micronesia and Japan this year.

国際機関 太平洋諸島センター（ＰＩＣ）を訪問しました。日本・ミクロネシア連邦 国交樹立２５周年を迎えるにあたっての協力体制について意見交換をしました。

Visited the Pacific Islands Centre (PIC) and held discussions with the Director and staff regarding cooperation on the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Federated States of Micronesia and Japan.
