駐日ミクロネシア連邦大使：ジョン・フリッツの日々前進！

福島県いわき市商工観光部の皆様（新妻部長・鈴木次長・千葉課長・猪狩主査）と、いわき市東京事務所の村上所長が、昨年の『第１回太平洋諸国舞踊祭』の御礼と、新任のご挨拶にいらっしゃいました。いわき市とミクロネシア連邦の交流について、さまざまな意見交換をしました。今後とも宜しくお願い致します。

Summary

Ambassador welcomed officials from the Department of Commerce Industry and Tourism of Iwaki City Government ( Director General, Hidemasa Niitsuma; Deputy Director General, Yoshiaki Suzuki; Division Manager, Shinichiro Chiba, Senior Administrative Officer, Shu Igari, Director of Iwaki City Tokyo Office, Hiroshi Maurakami)  to the Embassy who visited to thank FSM for   taking part in the  first Pacific Island Countries Dance Festival and to introduce themselves as new officers in charge of the department. Ambassador took the opportunity to thank  them and assured them that the Embassy will continue to work with them in strengthening the friendly and cooperative ties between the people of Iwaki City and FSM.

４月２１日（日）、群馬県富岡市で行われた『第３回富岡市国際交流まつり』に参加しました。あいにく季節外れの雪が山を覆う寒い日でしたが、開始時間には雨も止み、お客様の出足も好調だったように思います。オープニングセレモニーでは来賓として挨拶しました。友好の証として岡野市長に木彫りのカヌーを贈呈させていただきました。

ホワイエではご当地アイドルＡＫＧを始めアーティストの演奏や展示が行われ、屋外に設置されたブースでは地元の団体や中国・フィリピン・インドネシア・台湾・タイなどが料理やお菓子を販売しました。ミクロネシア連邦は、手作りのココナッツクッキーとバナナマフィン、民芸品を販売。お菓子は早々と完売し、貝のネックレスや亀・星・ハートの形をした壁掛けも好評でした。

富岡市との交流は約２０年前、アリック・アリック元大使（現・副大統領）の時代から始まり、長いお付き合いをさせていただいております。お忙しい中、時間を掛けて準備に当たられた富岡市国際交流協会を始め、関係者の皆様に心より御礼申し上げます。

Summary

The Embassy participated in the 3rd Tomioka City International Festival held on April 21st (Sunday) in Tomioka City, Gunma Prefecture. It was an unusual cold day with some snow in the mountain areas especially  at such a  time of the year, however, the festivities turned out well. As a guest, Ambassador delivered a speech at the opening ceremony during which he also presented a gift (sail canoe handicrafts) to the Mayor of Tomioka City symbolizing the special connections FSM has with  Tomioka City and Japan, which are connected not only by blood links but are also bound by the ocean.

The festival programs and activities included entertainments by artist groups and display/sell  of products and food at the booths. At the Embassy’s booth, coconut cookies, banana muffins and handicrafts were sold.

The friendly relations  with Tomioka City started during Alik’s (current Vice President) time as Ambassador about 20 years ago. Thanks to Tomioka International Friendship Association and friends from Tomioka City for playing an important role in strengthening the relations. Look forward to work with all of them in the days ahead.

今年も恒例の『アジアの祭典 チャリティーバザー』が、４月９日（火）ＡＮＡインターコンチネンタルホテル東京で行われました。このバザーは、政財界のご夫人と在京２６ヶ国アジア・大洋州地域の大使夫人らで構成されるアジア婦人友好会によるビッグイベントです。収益金は参加国の福祉・教育支援・災害援助のため、分配されます。

各国自慢のお料理や民芸品・特産品の販売、舞台上では民族舞踊が披露されました。ミクロネシア連邦大使館は、ポナペペッパーやココナッツオイル、民芸品、大使夫人＆公使夫人の愛情がたっぷり詰まった手作りお菓子の販売をしました。

ご多忙の中、バザーにお越し下さった皆様、関係各位の皆様、お手伝いをして下さった皆様に、心から感謝申し上げます。

Summary

The Asia-Pacific Ladies Friendship Society’s Annual Charity Bazaar was held again this year on April 9th at ANA Intercontinental Hotel in Akasaka, Tokyo. It is one of the major  annual events spearhead  by the Asia-Pacific Friendship Society’s  members including  spouses of government officials from Japan and wives (spouses) of Ambassadors from 26 countries in  Asia and Pacific. FSM Embassy displayed several items this year including Pohnpei pepper, coconuts oil, handicrafts, and coconut cookies, banana bread, banana pies, and banana cup cakes made by Ambassador’s and DCM’s wives.

Each members countries take the opportunity to display their countries food, handicrafts, and  products.

福島県いわき市立勿来（なこそ）第一中学校の生徒さんと先生方がご来館されました。いわき市とは、昨年の『太平洋諸国舞踊祭』以来、交流を重ねております。今回のメンバーは全員が吹奏楽部員。また、顧問の先生も同行されていました。音を出すのが難しいと言われるホラ貝も難なくクリア。訪問の最後に、歌のプレゼントをして下さいました。美しい歌声に心が洗われるようでした。ミクロネシア連邦の人々は歌や音楽が大好きです。いつか、音楽を通して、交流が実現できることを願っています。

Summary

Embassy staff welcomed six students and two teachers from Nakaso  Junior High School No. #1 in Iwaki-City, Fukushima Prefecture. The Embassy’s visit is the first one with Iwaki-City as part of the  friendly exchanges between  Iwaki City and the Embassy, which  started  last year (2012) through the very  first Pacific Countries Dance Festival in Iwaki City. The students are members of the school brass band and with their  experiences  in musical instruments, they  were able to blow good sounds out of  the shells at the Embassy. In addition to the short program prepared by the Embassy which  included presentation on FSM, and the question and answer sessions, the students sang a song. Look forward to strengthen the friendship with the school and the people of Iwaki City through various areas including musics.

NPO法人エコプラスが昨年２０周年を迎えられ、その記念事業でヤップ州の１４～１７才の学生１０名を日本に招聘してくださいました。１０日間の日本滞在中、彼らは文化体験や企業訪問など初めて経験することばかりで、充実した毎日を過ごしたようです。大使館に来た日は、周辺の桜の名所“桜坂”がちょうど見頃を迎え、桜並木におおはしゃぎしていました。学生の中には、十数年前に同じプロジェクトで父親が来日し、親子二代に亘って参加したメンバーもいました。日本とミクロネシア連邦の絆を深めてくださる活動に心から感謝申し上げます。

Ambassador and Staff welcomed ten students to the FSM Embassy (age between 14-17) from Yap High School and three chaperons who visited Japan under the sponsorship of NPO ECO-PLUS . The students were invited to visit Japan as part of  the NPO ECO-PLUS’s events in commemoration of its 20th foundation anniversary last year (2012). The program with Yap has been on for over twenty years and their programs in Japan this time  include visits to waste management and recycle facilities and factories, which is one of the main objective of the visit to observe and get firsthand knowledge of  Japan’s waste management and the technologies  to enable them to understand how to cope with the wastes in their respective communities. They also stayed with host families and visited other areas in the northern part of Japan  to experience different cultures and lifestyle. One of the chaperons this time participated in the program  twenty  years ago as a student. The Yap students  played an important role in deepening the Kizuna between FSM and Japan.
