The Assistant Secretary for Communication of the Department of Transportation Communication and Infrastructure, Mr. Jolden Johnnyboy, was in Tokyo to attend a two days symposium on Application of Wideband Internetworking Experiment Test and Demonstrations (WIND) sponsored by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and National Institute of Information and Communication Technology. During the visit he also followed up on the pilot project entitled “Joint Research on ICT Project Formations for Creating Development Models of Telecenter”, which will be implemented soon in the three States (Kosrae, Pohnpei, Chuuk) in the FSM under the funding from the Government of Japan through the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT). The pilot project is approximately US $141,000.0, a result of the efforts undertaken by Dr. Saga, an adviser to the FSM on ICT, who has been working closely with Japan and FSM ICT projects.
In connection with the pilot project, a meeting was held at the Embassy between the core players including KDDI (consultant for the project), Kyowa Shipping (shipping company), Pilot Project Team (Johnnyboy, Dr. Saga, Dr. Pramank), and Embassy staff to go over the necessary procedures for smooth delivery of the necessary equipment and implementation of the project. The project will tremendously help the schools and communities in linking with the main center for the purpose of education, relate emergency and health information and etc.

占冠村 訪問

2月23日、5月に北海道で予定されている島サミット開催の準備のため、外務省大洋州課の岩間課長とともに占冠村(シムカップ)を訪問しました。占冠村では大歓迎を受け、とても温かい交流ができました。 これから島サミットを通して、更なる交流を深めていきたいと思います。 日本と太平洋諸島国は同じ島国として、海でつながっています。今回お世話になった方々に御礼もうしあげます。来る5月には島サミットで再び会えることを楽しみにしております。

I take this opportunity to express my heartfelt appreciation to the Mayor and people of Shimukappu Village, the officials and representatives of Hokkaido Government for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to me during my visit, with Mr. Kiminori Iwama, Director of Oceania Division of Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The visit was one among other ongoing events in preparation for the upcoming 5th Japan-Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting. Through the Summit, I sincerely hope that the friendly and cooperative relations between our people will be further enhanced. As island nations we share many things in common, and we are connected by the Ocean, it does not separate us. Thank you once again, and I look forward to seeing you all again in May.

4月15日のアジア婦人会(ALFS)バザーに向けての準備活動

ミクロネシア連邦(FSM)アジア太平洋婦人友好会(ALFS)のメンバーは、2009415日(水曜日)に予定しているチャリテーバザーの準備のため、大使館で会議を開きました。会議に集まったALFSメンバーは、モモエ フリッツ大使夫人、マグダレナ アンドリュー公使夫人、草柳卓江大使秘書、根本るり子秘書です。FSM ALFSグループは、今年のイベントでもミクロネシア連邦の食べものと特産品を提供します。この重要なイベントはコンチネンタル航空を含むたくさんの友人とサポーターからの支援で参加し続けることができました。大使館からはラッフル賞として、ミクロネシア連邦のポナベへの往復航空券2名分とサウスパークホテルの3泊無料宿泊券が当たります。

このイベントの収益金はミクロネシア連邦の婦人や子供の教育支援のために使われます。今年の収益金はヤップ州婦人会に寄贈される予定です。

毎年、協力してくださる、団体、個人、友人の皆様に心から感謝いたします。今年も是非会場にお越しください。

Members of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) Asia-Pacific Ladies Friendship Society (ALFS) held a meeting at the Embassy to discuss the final plans for this year’s ALFS annual charitable bazaar scheduled to take place on April 15, 2009 (Wednesday). FSM ALFS members are Mrs. Momoe Fritz, spouse of Ambassador Fritz, Mrs. Magdalena Andrew, spouse of DCM Andrew, Ms. Takue Kusayanagi, Executive Secretary to Ambassador, Mrs. Ruriko Nemoto, receptionist.

As member of this organization, the FSM ALFS group will again present the taste and feel of the FSM at this year’s event. FSM’s continued participation in this important event is only made possible because of the generous support and contributions from friends and supporters including Continental Airlines Inc., who has been helping since the FSM became a full member of this organization, by donating two free round-trip tickets for the Raffle Prize, South Park Hotel Management for providing free accommodation for this year’s Raffle prize, FSM States Women’s Associations for providing handicrafts and other products for display at the FSM booths, Japanese friends helping during the bazaar and many-many others. We extend our sincere appreciation for your continued support and cooperation.

The FSM shares from the proceeds of the charitable event will be donated to Women’s Associations in the FSM four States to support their programs and activities. The donation has been arranged on a rotational basis, and Yap State Women’s Association will the the recipient for this year.

駐日スロバキア大使の訪問

本日、 ペテル ヴルシャンスキー特命全権大使がスロバキアとミクロネシア連邦の両国の協力体制を強化するためにお越しくださいました。

Today, His Excellency Mr. Peter Vrsansky, Amabassador of Slovak Republic visited our embassy to discuss further cooperation between our two countries.

神奈川県で懇親会

2月14日、神奈川県海老名市で、大和市赤十字奉仕団、および海老名市少年野球連盟、並びに、

以前、日本赤十字社神奈川県支部でミクロネシア連邦を訪問された方々から招待を受け懇親会に参加しました。 大変素晴らしい交流が出来たことを嬉しく思います。前回の訪問の際、車2台と野球道具一式を寄付していただきました。ミクロネシアの人々に大変役立っています。

皆様ご協力いただき、ありがとうございます。これからもさらに交流を深めていきたいと思います。

Members of the Red Cross Yamato City Volunteer Group, Ebina City Youth Baseball Federation, and Kanagawa Chapter of Japan Red Cross Society mission to the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) in 1996 welcomed Ambassador Fritz at a friendly gathering in Ebina Kanagawa Prefecture on February 14, 2009. The voluntary groups played important roles in assisting the Kanagawa Chapter in implementing its activities toward the FSM. The groups donated two supporting vehicles and baseball equipments to the FSM.

The Kanagawa Chapter was instrumental in the formation of FSM National Red Cross Society, which it was actually gained full membership in the International Red Cross Society (IRCS) on November 20, 2003. We extend our sincere appreciation to all members for their continued generous support and kind friendship, and hope to deepen the cooperative working relationship.
